[ CAPTURE ] - Project 3 - Space for Self

Project 3 incorporates both the creativity and functionality; identity of user, comfort of the user and creativity in articulating space and spatial experience, as a complete experience.

The intended space is as a dream space that has a specific uses and highlights specific events, coupled with an effective well thought out theme and written narrative. The understanding is to be architecturally translated into a series of connected spaces (2-3 spaces) that successfully establishes the quality and articulation of both interior and exterior design, with the consideration of both physical and non-physical requirements of the user.

Guidelines:

1. We are required to design 2-3 spaces with a gross floor area of 70-100sqm.

2. The hideout should not occupy more than 70% of the site footprint.

3. The design should be attached to at least one or both walls of the two walls.

4. The height of the structure shall not exceed the height of the higher wall (15 metres)

5. Digging in to the neighbouring wall is not allowed except for structural anchoring of the hideout and /or texturing the rock surface to match / contrast against the meterials used for the main structure.

Final Outcome:

I am a photographer. I like photography. This project gives me opportunity to design a dream space regarding space about photography.

Persona:

1. observing

- look at details

- look at different perspectives & point of views

About Photography:

- play with lights and shadows

- angles and perspectives

- framing of moments

- imprinting memories

Design Concept:

- how different moments of light / time give me different moods and spatial experiences

- how light is directed into the space and create interesting shadows

- how spaces are arranged according to the transition of light & sequence of photography processes in relation to hierarchy

Perspective gives the user a different horizon and experience, enhancing the mood to interact with the spaces.

Spatial features:

Space 1: Capturing & Viewing spaces

- first process of experiencing photography

- receive most sufficient of light

- provide wide angles of view and horizon

- wall planes and overhead planes are installed with different sizes and orientations of openings for lighting and perspective purposes

- different height of slabs are attached to wall planes to allow the photographer to have different shooting positions and experiences (anthropometry)

Space 2: Inspirational Garden

- exterior space that receive sufficient amount of light and is exposed to climate

- rough material is used in order to give photographer sense to feel an touch

- photographer is able to in-touch with nature and surrounding, to further trigger the touch and feel sense in order to give inspiration and trigger imagination of the user

- light casting on tree creates illusive and fleeting shadow on the wall give the user melancholic and nostalgic mood to the user

Space 3: Gallery

- space that receive less light and is enclosed with solid walls

- photographer uses this space to compose picture, appreciate the moments and for public review purposes

- light enters through the opening on the overhead plane that enhance the fading of the light and give the feeling of memories fading, to further trigger the appreciating the moment from the picture framed on the wall

Space 4: Photography Dark Room

- most underneath space that cannot receive any light and is enclosed

- photographer uses this space to arrange the photos and print the photo to be kept or composed

- space for the user to imprint the memories before leaving the building
