[ METAMORPHOSE ] - Project 2 - A Temporary Shelter

Project 2 is to expand the interpretation of the users by exploring the relationships between the human body and the designed form. The intention of the space or form is based on the personality and human body, by developing the understanding of scale and proportion with relation to the human body.

This project mainly focuses on anthropometry, by understanding how the human body relates to space, and ergonomics to arrange space that can allow user to interact with the space.

Guidelines:

1. Group with approximately 7 members each.

2. The shelter should not exceed 2.0 cubic meters.

My group consists of 7 members:

1. Yeo Shi Jie (Me)

2. Ryan Lai Yew Jin

3. Lee Hue Chi

4. Esther Tey

5. Tan Jeslyn

6. Soong Chee Hin

7. Zuha Majid

Conceptual Narrative:

Our client (user) is Ryan Lai, who is an ambivert. His personality changes from extrovert into an introvert, so we incorporate the personality into our design, by showing the transformation of design. We use materials like woods, polycarbonates, stickers in primary colours and hinges.

The idea of anthropometry allows us to merge with our idea of transformation, to further show how the body shape the space of the shelter.

Design Ideas:

We design our shelter into repetitive cubes, linked with one another into 3 rows. Each cubes will have different primary colours of polycarbonate, a translucent material that alters building chromatic depends on the time of the day, besides allowing the light to cast down and create different coloured shadows.

Colours:

The use of 3 primary colours ( Red, Yellow, Blue ) is to grab the attention of the passers-by as inspired by the extroversion of the Ryan, in order to interact with people around. The placement of the colour is in randomness but in a controlled manner. It is inspired by Composition C & Eames House.
