Hi, I am Yeo Shi Jie, 0330176.
In this phase, students are required to conduct studies to understand valuable components prior to designing. The study will enable students to gain familiarity with the people, place and time, meaning proposed users, the site and its condition and value in the past, present and in the future. The important components include site-urban studies & analysis, understanding & interpreting the theme/direction, programming (a programme of specific requirements) and the generation of architectural position and initial design responses. With the tutor’s guidance and the studio theme, students are expected to conduct research and studies on relevant projects and buildings as a reference in generating a more specific project intentions and design position. Application of the learnings from relevant readers, such as ‘Life between buildings Using Public Space, Qualities of Responsive Environments, ‘Cities for People’, Public spaces-Urban Spaces: The Dimensions of Urban Design, etc. are very critical in a more in-depth understanding of the site and context. Data and observations are to be properly documented in the form of photos, sketches, videos, tabulations, graphs, site modelling, etc. Interview or survey are useful tool to understand the viewpoints of the potential beneficiaries of the project and the main user of the proposed design project.
Objectives:
1. Develop a short yet concise and comprehensive studies on site aligning it to the theme of sustaining humanities-people, place and time.
2. Conduct pre-design studies to inform the design project.
