Hi, I am Yeo Shi Jie, 0330176.
Subsequent to Project 1b Schematic Design phase, students are required to further develop and finalize the scheme for the Urban Room / City Room project. A fully resolved and develop design scheme with the incorporation of environmental strategies and technological resolutions, tectonic and poetic exploration. In this phase, students will be guided with workshops and a series of lectures focusing on poetics, tectonics, and sustainability and building safety compliance. The workshops will be on Environmental & Technology (E&T) to further enhance the passive cooling strategies and structural concepts and design to realize the effect of structure and materiality in enhancing the user experiential qualities of a building besides its aesthetic and structural purposes. As a final year student, the level work expected should demonstrate critical thinking skills, structural sense sensitivity to key issues of the environment, compliance with law & regulations, explorative and workability. The students are expected to come up with a comprehensive and clear final design presentation aligning to the objectives of the project and studio direction.
Objectives:
1. To consolidate an understanding of the holistic nature of the architectural design process, to a given degree of detail, with emphasis on design as an integrative process, drawing as appropriate on previous subjects of the program.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Propose architectural design responses and strategies to further justify the position and programme through a series of analytical diagrams and models.
2. Generate a design with a good level of understanding of design codes, environmental, technological strategies tectonics and poetics. Emphasizing effectivity, sustainability, buildability and efficiency.
3. Establish a good level of understanding on materiality and detailing as means to capture experiential, aesthetic and innovative qualities of the design.
4. Consolidate a comprehensive understanding of design into a holistic architectural presentation and summing up design as an integrative process.
Final Design Execution:
Overall Board Layout
i. Introduction - Narrative, Design Concept, Massing Strategies Diagrams etc.
ii. Approach - Street View
iii. Isometry - Surrounding Immediate Contexts
iv. Exploded Axonometry - Programmes & Levelling
v. Sectional Perspective - Interior Spaces & Activities
vi. Site Plan - Neighboring Contexts
vii. Elevational Drawings - Exterior & Building Contexts
viii. Floor Plans - Spatial Layout & Plannings
ix. Sectional Drawings - Interior & Activities
x. Interior Perspectives - Tectonics & Poetics
xxi. Environmental & Technologies - Sustainability & Building Systems
Facade Systems
a.Perforated Metal Facade - helps to diffuse the hot direct sunlight especially from the east and west-facing facades, simultaneously, solving the issues of glare and overheated with minimized solar heat gain yet maximizing the natural daylight during the mid-day.
Roofing Insulation
b.R.C. Insulated Roofing - Reducing the U-Value of R.C. Slab Roofing by adding a layer of thermal insulation to mitigate the heat trapped in the interior spaces for achieving thermal comfort.
Passive Design Features:
- Preserving the existing surrounding landscapes and integration of new strategic landscaping within the building helps to mitigate the urban island effect.
- Water features located at the prevailing wind direction to direct the wind and create evaporative cooling towards the building as natural ventilation strategy.
xxii. Technical Components - Structural Buildability & UBBL Compliances Drawings (w/ INTEGRATED PROJECT 2b)
a. Bomba & Fire Escape Compliances - Construction Plans + Travel Distances
b. Windows & Doors Schedules Documentation
c. Construction Orthogonal Drawings - Elevations, Sections, etc.
d. Sectional Construction Details - Callouts
xxiii. Final ADP Projects Report (10%) - SEMESTER 6
